City & Guilds certificate in creative techniques in 2D Level 2

Arvindh joined the City & Guilds certificate in creative techniques in 2D - Level 2 course in September 2019.

It was clear from the start that Arvindh had a natural facility with art. His sensitivity to the qualities of art materials and his passion for creating really came across when he was interviewed for the course.

He has progressed impressively on the course and aspects that he has found challenging such as the life drawing have helped to develop his artistic and technical skills. The more experimental side of the course has also given him great scope to really explore new creative approaches and build on his existing repertoire. This means he now has a substantial portfolio of artwork that he could use to apply for any higher level courses or for an exhibition.

It has helped me with writing and exploring other aspects of painting during the lockdown.

How did your learning journey begin?

I wanted to do a qualification course and City and Guilds seemed right for me. I did the course after clearing the interview. I love Art and Design and want to progress in it.

I found the course very easy. I enjoyed drawings the most rather than the writing. Tim is very good and very helpful and nice. He is not strict and understands me. Sean was also helpful as a support worker and has always written back to me. I like art but the tutor Tim has made it so nice for me, thank you Tim.

What did you like best about the course?

I liked the life drawings of models and enjoyed print making and collage. I have progressed very well, initially I found it a bit hard to understand certain things, now I find it easy, thanks to Tim. I also enjoyed socializing with my classmates at lunch time and going to the pub.

It has helped me with writing and exploring other aspects of painting during the lockdown.

Where you are now – professionally/personally?

I am now volunteering at the Stephen Wiltshire Centre but it has stopped due to the pandemic. However, I feel happy that I can draw, I put it on social media, and everyone likes it. I want to do exhibitions and I hope to work somewhere where I can use my art.

What are your next steps?

I want to do Foundation or BTEC or another related course, I may also want to do IT courses so I can find work.

Is there anything else you want to add?

Thank you Macbeth, Sean Buckley and Tim Cuncliffe.
