People over 50 who have completed the Agewell beginners Tai Chi course
Ability to practice the Small Circle Tai Chi form independently at a basic level. Ability to practise Golden Ball exercises, basic relaxation exercises and Ba Duan Jin
Practice a range of relaxing and energising exercises Demonstrate understanding of how they are grouped Practice the complete Small Circle Tai Chi foprm with confidence Practice all, or part of the Original Lam form, (depending on experience). Work towards agreed learning goals Tai Chi is said to relax the body, calm the mind and lift the spirit. Learners report many and varied benefits which they attribute to regular practice. The most common of these are improved ability to cope with stress, and improved mobility and balance.
This course is designed to introduce learners to the Original Lam Tai Chi form at a comfortable pace. Learners can progress from the Agewell beginners course at the start of each autumn term. At the same time as extending their range of movements learners are encoursged to improve their practice of the Small Circle form and their understanding of the art as a who
Regular practise between classes contributes greatly towards the sucessful completion of this course.
Each learner will complete a health questionnaire and an initial assessment from which individual targets/challenges will be set. No formal assessment but your progress will be tracked against the course learning outcomes and your personal targets. Self assessment may also be required.
You can continue to learn and progress within the same class. You can practise your exercises and Tai Chi forms independently You can try out other Agewell classes You can join a mainstream Tai Chi class.
Normal Agewell costs apply. Please wear loose comfortable clothing and flat, flexible soled shoes that do not restrict ankle movement. Books may be recommended but there is no required reading. You may also be informed about Tai Chi events but will be under no obligation to attend. Please also bring water with you.
Help with literacy or numeracy is available through the basic education programme and the ESOL programme offers help for speakers of other languages. Additional support can be provided for students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities. Details are available from the ALSS course guide and from teaching or reception staff.
