This course focuses on the legs, back and arms. It is a ballet-fitness based fitness class which focuses on trunk and pelvic stability, good posture, balance and muscle strengthening of the legs and back. The course assists on strengthening the important body parts which contribute on the participant’s ordinary daily activities.
Anyone who is able to stand still. Coordination issues and inexperience (e.g., if a participant has never tried ballet before) are not an issue, as this is a modified ballet class for seniors.
There is no need for any experience or relevant knowledge of dance. There is no need for any special equipment. For instance, if the venue does not have ballet bars, we could use chairs instead.
You will have stronger back, arms, legs and a better sense of balance. You will improve your coordination skills and keep your brain healthy.
10 weekly sessions of 1 hour each. The course is designed to teach you a couple of simple ballet terms and steps (for effective communication between the tutor and the group) and take you step by step throughout the year from teaching you simple steps and balances to harder combinations, coordination and/or balances. There are no pirouettes (turns) and balances in the course as these are considered a physical risk for the attendees.
The participant can independently look out for YouTube videos and check out the ballet glossary in Wikipedia. However, this is not mandatory.
By the tutor in class and through your own self-assessment.
The dress code is very simple; it could range from leggings and ballet shoes to comfortable clothes and socks, as long as the participant can move freely and is able to glide/brush his/her/their feet on the floor.
