Languages & Interpreting
Whether you’re hustling for a new job or expanding your horizons, learning a language can open the door to opportunity. As well as improving your career prospects and love life, science has suggested that speaking another language can unlock intellectual potential and may strengthen cognitive abilities.
1. Learning a new language improves your memory
Learning a whole new language structure and grammar system is like an exercise for your brain and just like physical exercise releases feel good endorphins triggering a positive feeling in the body, the health benefits of learning a language, include enhanced cognitive performance. That means increased memory and attention span, better decision-making, problem-solving, as well as amplified critical thinking and listening.
Several studies have also shown that strengthening brain activity through learning can delay the onset of dementia and other mental health conditions by 4-5 years. After all, your brain is a muscle, and just like any muscle in your body, it grows weak and lazy without training.

2. Language Connects You to Other Cultures
Learning a new language from another culture can open your mind and can give you a new perspective. Culture encompasses the way of life for all groups of people; beliefs, values and traditions; the history of a country or region; the arts, good food, literature, movies and music. It will not only help you connect with them, but you will develop a deep sense of understanding and empathy as well.
3. You’ll expand your horizons and meet new people
You can meet new people in a language class, in your study group or you can meet speakers of the language you’re learning during your travels.
When you go abroad for a holiday imagine how much better it would be if you knew the language. The cool places you’d explore, the cool people you’d meet and perhaps even encounter that special someone.
4. You will increase your chances of employment
Life can get pretty competitive – especially in the world of work where you want to stand out from the crowd. Knowing another language will set you apart from other candidates, turn the odds in your favour and open doors to further opportunities.
To help you get started with enjoying these benefits, we have put together a series of language courses for beginners. Go to Language beginners courses to see what we have on offer.
