In this class the aim is to use methods of drawing and painting to make a successful likeness and select methods that bring out the personality of the sitter. A visit to the National Portrait Gallery may be included as part of the course.
Anyone who would like to explore drawing and painting with the human likeness as the subject.
Some experience would be helpful, though not essential. Enthusiasm is important, as is the willingness to achieve your own learning goals.
Recognise the formal elements and relationships of the human face and body Make a range of drawings and paintings which clearly express the structure of the human form. Select and use media and style of drawing and painting to best describe the personality or character of the subject
Practical sessions. Students will be invited to further investigate the subject through exercises in drawing and painting. Information on materials and mediums as well as how to present work for display will also be included.
Gallery and museum visits are recommended as are looking at art books in libraries and visiting websites. Drawing practise will also help you to progress.
One to one verbal feedback, group discussion and evaluation, written progress and assessment will be recorded on your Individual Learning Plan and in your Learning Journal. Also discussion of each project and its relevance. At the end of term we will evaluate each learner’s work as a whole and discuss individual development.
Continue with this course or take another art course with us. You could use the work created to help compile a portfolio to help with an application to FE or HE.
Cartridge and some other paper and charcoal are available in class. Students should provide their own fixative, masking tape, sketch books and additional drawing materials as necessary.
Help with literacy or numeracy is available through the basic education programme and the ESOL programme offers help for speakers of other languages. Additional support can be provided for students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities.
