This course will cover the ballet fundamentals – five positions for the feet, basic turns and an introduction to the barre routines for ballet. The session will begin with a warm-up, followed by different combination plié, tendus, jetés, rond de jambes and grand battement. As this is a beginner level course, instruction and routines will be delivered at a slower pace than in an improver class.
This course is for adults who have no previous experience of attending ballet classes.
No prior experience is necessary. You will be introduced to the structure and etiquette of a ballet class. Some experience of exercise activities e.g. Pilates, yoga, the gym, other forms of dance would be valuable but not essential.
• Execute fundamental ballet positions with correct alignment and posture. • Demonstrate core ballet movements, including pliés, tendus, with precision. • Maintain balance and control while performing turns and jumps. • Apply musicality and rhythm to ballet sequences. • Coordinate arm and leg movements fluidly in combinations. • Enhance flexibility and strength through structured ballet exercises. • Perform a short ballet routine with confidence and expression. • Follow ballet etiquette and discipline in class settings. • Understand basic ballet terminology and use it correctly. • Improve spatial awareness and movement quality in performance.
The course is led by a qualified ballet teacher, through demonstrations, practical exercises and dance combinations.
Tutor observation, feedback and the use of an Independent Learning Plan.
Further beginner level courses to build up your ballet skills - balance, posture, strength and memory – before progressing on to an improver level ballet.
It is recommended you wear comfortable sportswear and ballet shoes.
Help with literacy or numeracy is available through the basic education programme and the ESOL programme offers help for speakers of other languages. Additional support can be provided for students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities.
